- Description
- Records debits and credits accrued by Briggs for a variety of activities including shingling, laying floors, mending wheels, setting glass, fixing wool wheels, hanging gates, painting heads of barrels, and making spit boxes, hammer handles, knife handles, and hog troughs. He turned bedstead posts, table legs, etc. for Jesse Lyons and Lucius Lyons, cabinetmakers in Colrain. Briggs often received lumber and boards in exchange for his labor as well as cloth, shoes, and bushels of farm products. Others pastured cows and planted crops for him. The volume also contains many references to work at a mill. Josiah Briggs was a turner, cabinetmaker, and handyman in the vicinity of Colerain (also spelled Colrain), Franklin County, Massachusetts.
