When viewing a object, select or tab into the image viewer and use the following controls to manipulate the image.


  • Move up: w or [up arrow]
  • Move down: s or [down arrow]
  • Move left: a or [left arrow]
  • Move right: d or [right arrow]
  • Return to centre: 0
  • Zoom in: = or [shift] + w or [shift] + [up arrow]
  • Zoom out: - or [shift] + s or [shift] + [down arrow]
  • Rotate clockwise: r
  • Rotate counterclockwise: R
  • Flip horizontally: f

Lantern Slides

A glass photographic format popular in the late 1800s-early 1900s, lantern slides were projected onto a wall or a screen by a magic lantern projector with an internal light source. Typically manufactured in sets, these slides were used for both educational and entertainment purposes in public lectures and in-home displays.

Charles Magnus Collection

Collection of letter sheets, envelopes, illustrated song sheets, prints, and rewards of merit produced by New York print publisher, map dealer, bookseller and stationer Charles Magnus.

John Ragatz & Son Furniture Drawings

Shaker Hymnals

Shaker hymnals (hymn books) from the Edward Deming Andrews Memorial Shaker Collection at the Winterthur Library and the Communal Societies Collection at the Burke Library, Hamilton College.

Shaker Photographs

Part of the Faith and Edward Deming Andrews Memorial Shaker Collection. Contains about 1,200 different images of the Shaker religious sect. At least fifteen Shaker communities located in eight states are represented.
