Description
Consists of problems in geometry, trigonometry, and navigation. Figures are used to illustrate rules and theorems. The section on navigation features an illustration of a mariner's compass, a diagram noting geographic terms, circles and zones, and a section on Mercator's sailing. The last two pages have some very scattered accounts dated 1805. In city directories of the 1850s, he is listed as a carpenter. The names Jesse and John Boughman are also found in the volume. It is not really clear who kept these mathematical and navigational problems. Bound in full leather with a leather patch on the front cover. Paper is watermarked S & W L. Items are laid into the volume as well. One is an ad for H.R. & W. Bringhurst drug store in Wilmington, which is attached to a page which includes an calendar for 1855. The ad lists merchandise for sale. Another item is a bill from James T. Chambers, dry good dealer in Wilmington, to Robert Galbraith, for hat crape, dated 3 mo. 14, 1863. Another bill is from J. B. Boughman to John Ferris, for hemlock and work, dated 1864. The last bill is from Jacob Boughman to John Montgomery for work, dated 1868, which is attached to another bill from Boughman to JohnConnel for making and hanging a door, dated 1851. There are a few notes and election results dated 1867, with the name R. Galbraith found in a couple of locations. The last item is several pages from a Wilmington newspaper dated Dec. 9, 1921.
