- Description
- Friedrich Walbert was a linen weaver from Württemberg, Germany, in the first quarter of the 19th century. Friedrich Walbert was "inspired by God" to write this linen weaver's pattern book in 1815. In this "second essay" by Walbert, the title page states that the volume contains designs that are "as well the old as the new." The designs, instructions, and drafts are written in a manner "which will easily be understood by the craftsman." The designs are organized according to the number of harnesses. The front of the volume contains a lengthy preface defending the linen weaving trade as an honorable profession, stating that linen is used by everyone throughout their lives. Walbert notes that even babies, including his Savior Jesus Christ, are wrapped in linen. The preface concludes with a poem on the same subject.
