Description
Consists of a series of 25 different exercises in sewing and mending. Each includes a handwritten series of instructions, often illustrated, with the corresponding finished work attached to the facing page. Work is done on muslin and other textiles. Exercises including basting, overhanding, gathering, making pillow cases and laundry bags, patching, gussets, several kinds of darning, etc. A miniature lace-edged pillow sham is found, but instructions for making it are not. Other miniature clothing includes drawers, an apron, a nightgown, a skirt, and a shirtwaist (i.e. blouse). The initials E.M.L. are written on the second leaf, in a fancy script. Two pattern pieces are laid into the volume.
