- Description
- This album features exterior shots and pictures of room settings, complete with furniture and decorative elements. Various styles, including Colonial Revival, Arts and Crafts, and Medieval are represented. Some of the furniture was made by Karl von Rydingsvard. The house was owned by Theodore Swann (1886-1955). Swann was an industrialist and in 1913, went to work for the Alabama Power Co. in Birmingham. He began his own company and made a fortune. He married Catherine Dunwody, and they had two daughters. In addition to his mansion in Birmingham (on which construction began in 1927), he built a house, the Black Swann River House, on the Cahaba River. Later in life, Swann lost most of his fortune. He died on February 5, 1955. The second album, not online, contains photos of single pieces of furniture located in the entrance hall, study, living room, breakfast room, sun porch, stone room, and master's room.
