Williams and Johnston Architectural Drawings
Seven drawings of a house for a Mrs. Boice. The drawings are noted as being from the architects Williams and Johnston, with one of the drawings signed by the contractor John A. Wert. Included are elevations for the front, sides, and rear, and floor plans for the basement, first, and second floors. There are nine main rooms in the house, plus halls, first floor bathroom, and two porches. The drawings are on the scale of ¼ inch to one foot, and they show such details as placement of vents, sinks, and built-in cabinets. The elevations specify some of the details of the exterior, such as a tinned roof. The location of the house is not given, but was probably in St. Lawrence County, New York.
Williams and Johnston was an architectural firm, and John A. Wert was a carpenter and contractor, all in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, New York. The principals of the firm were Samuel D. P. Williams and R. Porter Johnston. The firm was formed in 1893, but by 1925, Williams was practicing alone. Wert was born in Canada in 1865 and died in Ogdensburg in 1936.
