Manuscript Invoices

Invoices offer insights into distribution of products and networks of sellers and consumers.  The bills seen here represent a variety of household products and personal goods.  Service oriented businesses are represented by commission merchants, publishers, and freight haulers.  Most invoices originated from the eastern United States with a sprinkling from Europe, with dates ranging from the 18th to the 20th centuries.  Non-printed bills are all handwritten, while many printed bills feature illustrative vignettes of storefronts and advertised goods.  Some orders for goods are also included here.
