Leslie Potts Drawings

Trained as an architect, Leslie Potts worked in the farming operations at Winterthur from 1931 until his death in 1966. He became estate superintendent of Winterthur Farms in 1952. During World War II when building projects ceased, Henry Francis du Pont asked Potts to produce a series of plans and elevations for several rooms of his house. These drawings detail the exact placement of furniture (located by brass markers set into the floor, matching each furniture leg) and other decorative elements, including rugs, lamps, window hangings, and upholstery. The drawings document not only historic arrangement of the rooms, but also Mr. du Pont’s taste in interior decoration before his home was turned into Winterthur Museum.
